I parked at the PCT/Commonwealth Basin parking lot, walked in the dark to the Snow Lake Trailhead, hiked to Snow Lake as the sun rose, took Rock Creek Trail down to Middlefork, then came up the Old Cascade Crest Trail to Red Pass, and went down Commonwealth … At 6 miles round trip with about 1700 feet of elevation gain, this is a challenging hike but it never gets extremely steep for too long. You can make your hike longer by adding the side trip to Source Lake, or going further around Snow Lake before enjoying your lunch.
